Vera Molnár's First Major US Solo Show at Beall Center Highlights Generative Art Pioneer

exhibition · 2026-04-20

The Beall Center for Art + Technology in Irvine is showcasing the first significant solo exhibition in the US of Vera Molnár, a pioneering figure in generative art, at the age of ninety-eight. This recognition comes amid a resurgence of interest in generative art, influenced in part by NFTs. The exhibition displays pieces from the 1960s and 70s, such as Hypertransformations 1–7 (1976) and Hommage à Barbaud (1974). Notable works include (Dis)Orders (1974), which introduces color, and 36 Squares, 8928 quadrilaterals: Pleasure Geometries (1986), which explores mutations. It also features a wall installation inspired by Descente (2013) and works from 1988 to 2017. Molnár's participation in this year's Venice Biennale underscores the ongoing marginalization of women in computational arts. The exhibition is open until 27 August.
