Venice Glass Week returns for fifth edition with expanded program
The fifth edition of The Venice Glass Week, titled #VivaVetro!, runs until September 12, 2021, with its richest program yet. The festival emphasizes glass as a living material requiring physical effort and heat. It features guided tours, open demonstrations in Murano furnaces, and hands-on workshops for all ages. Following UNESCO's recognition of glass beads as Intangible Cultural Heritage, special focus is placed on bead-making history and its female workforce. Exhibitions include "Perle in fiore" at Palazzo Mocenigo, a diffused show in Mestre shop windows, and "Perle 1.0" at Forte Marghera. The Venice Glass Week HUB at Palazzo Loredan displays works by twenty international artists, while HUB Under35 features 17 young designers. "L'Arca di Vetro. La Collezione di Animali di Pierre Rosenberg" at LE STANZE DEL VETRO, Fondazione Giorgio Cini, has been extended. The Museo del Vetro di Murano opens "Murano Glass Toys". Galleries such as Marignana Arte, Alma Zevi, Beatrice Burati Anderson, and Galleria Michela Rizzo host exhibitions. New awards include the "Premio Fondazione di Venezia" and the "Autonoma Residency Prize" offering a residency at Pilchuck Glass School. Online "Conversations on Glass by Apice" feature a talk with Dale Chihuly on September 8.
