Venice Gardens Foundation to Restore and Open Redentore Garden to Public

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

Chaired by Adele Re Rebaudengo, the Venice Gardens Foundation has revealed plans for the restoration and public unveiling of the Compendio del Giardino del Convento della Chiesa del Santissimo Redentore in Venice. The initiative, titled In Venetia Hortus Redemptoris, focuses on reviving the historic site, which encompasses the Orto, meditation chapels, and greenhouse, for public enjoyment. Landscape architect Paolo Pejrone is leading the restoration, which has secured €2 million from the EU's NextGenerationEU fund. The foundation took charge of the site, which suffered damage during the November 2019 acqua alta, in 2021. Work commenced on January 30, 2023, with plans for free entry for Venetians by 2024. Previously, the foundation restored the Giardini Reali di San Marco in 2019.
