Venice Design Returns to Palazzo Michiel with 52 Designers from 30 Countries
The second edition of Venice Design, organized by the Dutch nonprofit GAA Foundation, opens at Palazzo Michiel on the Grand Canal. Curated by Nina Dorigo, the exhibition features 52 designers from 30 countries, presenting eclectic works that blur the line between art and design, including unique furniture pieces, lighting systems, jewelry, illustrations, and hybrid projects. Following its debut alongside the Architecture Biennale in 2016, the show now positions itself as the main design event during the Art Biennale, aiming to engage the public with design's role in daily life. Notable participants include Japanese studio Nendo, Danish Studio KBB, French designer Pierre Cardin, German glass artist Jenny Ritzenhoff, and Finnish designer Ari Korolainen. A collateral initiative offers a map of 42 independent designers based in Venice, guiding visitors to studios practicing traditional techniques like Murano glass, leatherworking, and textiles. Additionally, the traveling exhibition 'No Taste for Bad Taste,' previously presented by French design promotion body VIA during Milan Design Week, is reprised for the Venetian audience. The show runs from May 13 to November 26, 2017.
