Venice Critics' Week Goes Queer and Pop for 37th Edition

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

The 37th International Critics' Week (SIC37) at the Venice Film Festival (August 31–September 10, 2022, Lido di Venezia) redefines its identity as queer, pop, and audience-oriented, with a new logo and dedicated venue. The competition lineup features seven films: Anhell69 by Theo Montoya, Beating Sun by Philippe Petit, Dogborn by Isabella Carbonell, Eismayer by David Wagner, Have You Seen This Woman?, Skin Deep by Alex Schaad, and the sole Italian entry Margini by Niccolò Falsetti, which includes a vocal cameo by Zerocalcare. The SIC@SIC short film program, in collaboration with Cinecittà, presents seven shorts plus two out-of-competition works. The visual identity, created by Mauro Uzzeo, Emiliano Mammuccari, and Fabrizio Verrocchi, evolves from last year's black-and-white to incorporate emotional color, reflecting themes of transition and identity.
