Venice Biennale Collateral Exhibition Explores Oceanic Interconnectedness
The exhibition 'As Above, So Below' will debut during the Venice Biennale, running from May 4 to June 8, 2026, in a historic 15th-century convent located on Giudecca Island. This showcase includes seven artists and art collectives who merge science, technology, and traditional techniques to craft immersive experiences. Attendees will hear humpback whale songs, sounds from Mediterranean seagrass meadows, underwater boat recordings from the Venetian lagoon, and view displays of bioluminescent plankton. Co-curated by Elizabeth Zhivkova and Farah Piriye Coene, this project is part of an ongoing research initiative that encompasses artist residencies and a podcast. It is a collaboration between Zeitgeist19, an environmental curatorial group, and the Milan-based One Ocean Foundation, focusing on the connection between humans and nature.
