The 2026 Venice Biennale commenced with 99 nations taking part, featuring seven newcomers, including Somalia and Qatar. The event was marked by the absence of its curator, Koyo Kouoh, who passed away over a year prior. Kouoh had intended to highlight 'enhancement' through the main exhibition titled 'In Minor Keys'. Despite her plea for tranquility, the preview week was rife with political tensions and protests. Activist group Pussy Riot demonstrated against Russia's participation, and a strike took place on Friday.
