Venice Biennale 2026: In Minor Keys, National Pavilions, and Tintoretto Restorations
The Art Newspaper's Venice Biennale special podcast covers the 2026 edition, focusing on the main exhibition 'In Minor Keys' curated posthumously by Koyo Kouoh and realized by five collaborators. The Biennale features over 100 artists across the Central Pavilion in the Giardini and the Arsenale, plus national pavilions and collateral events. Louisa Buck, Jane Morris, and host Ben Luke review the main exhibition. Ben interviews Gabrielle Goliath, whose South African pavilion work was cancelled and is now staged at Chiesa di Sant'Antonin, and Lubaina Himid, showing in the British Pavilion in the Giardini. He also meets writer Saidiya Hartman, whose essays inspired 'Minor Music at the End of the World' at Venice's Goldoni Theatre, featuring artists Arthur Jafa, Precious Okoyomon, and Okwui Okpokwaseli. Alexander Morrison talks to Daniella Kaliada about the collateral project 'Official. Unofficial. Belarus.' by Belarus Free Theatre at Chiesa di San Giovanni Evangelista. The episode's 'Work of the Week' features two Tintoretto canvases—'The Last Supper' and 'The Israelites in the Desert' (1591-92)—recently restored and returned to the Basilica of San Giorgio Maggiore, funded by Save Venice. Ben spoke with Save Venice's Senior Researcher Gabriele Matino about the conservation.
