Venice art community demands reform of Biennale's Venice Pavilion
A group known as "Venezia c'è," comprising gallerists, curators, artists, and art enthusiasts in Venice, is advocating for a significant reform of the Venice Pavilion at the Biennale. They are requesting the establishment of an official statute, the formation of a scientific committee, and yearly curatorial calls that alternate between art and architecture. On October 25, 2024, the coalition submitted a petition to the city council. The pavilion, designed by Brenno Del Giudice in 1932, has seen its significance wane since World War II. Mayor Luigi Brugnaro has dismissed the critics, asserting he has revitalized it, despite recent exhibitions being considered uninspired. Since Gabriella Belli's departure, the mayor has yet to appoint a new director for the Civic Museums, and the petition is pending a reply.
