Venice Apartment Becomes Artistic Experience Before Renovation
In Venice's Cannaregio district, an apartment awaiting renovation has been transformed into a critical artistic device. The project, titled 'Colombina Reloaded – Metamorfosi Veneziana,' is curated by Lucia Longhi and promoted by The Art Society. Instead of a conventional renovation, the space is presented as an open dialogue with its past, with moodboards, material samples, and floor plans displayed as traces of a potential future. Three artists have created site-specific interventions on walls destined to disappear when construction begins. In the kitchen, Stefania Serio (Conegliano, 1997) uses painting as a vital substance evoking domestic residues and bodily presences. In another room, Matteo Attruia (Sacile, 1973) incises the phrase 'all I need is…' directly into the wall, a gesture of radical subtraction that questions authenticity. In the bedroom, Kyle Meyer (Ohio, 1985) explores the boundary between appearance and dissolution using dyed fabrics and veiled photographs. The apartment, though intended for sale, is offered first as an aesthetic experience, subverting traditional consumption logics. The renovation is designed by Luca De Bona. The project positions dwelling as an act of resistance in a Venice often emptied by tourist rentals.
