Venezia di carta: unrealized architectural visions for Venice on display at Iuav

The exhibition 'Venezia di carta' at Università Iuav di Venezia examines architectural and urban projects for Venice that were never built. Curated by Alessandra Ferrighi, the show brings together studies, drawings, and investigations by Iuav masters Carlo Aymonino, Giancarlo De Carlo, Gianugo Polesello, Aldo Rossi, and other prominent architects including Costantino Dardi, Francesco Cellini, Franco Purini, Rafael Moneo, Steven Holl, and Peter Eisenman. The works demonstrate how Venice's intrinsic complexity did not limit experimentation, sometimes generating bold or questionable visions for the future. The exhibition is paired with a volume of the same name, edited by Alessandra Ferrighi and published by Letteraventidue, which also sheds light on the relationships between Iuav and La Biennale di Architettura with the city, collecting projects for the lagoon city dating from the 19th and 20th centuries—all of which remained on paper. The show runs until March 2, 2018, at the Cotonificio Santa Marta Spazio espositivo 'Gino Valle'.
