Venetian Masters Interpret Tod's Gommino in Biennale Exhibition
During the opening days of the 60th Venice Biennale, Tod's presents 'The Art of Craftsmanship. A Project by Venetian Masters' at the Arsenale on April 20-21, 2024. Eleven Venetian artisans—including glassblower Roberto Beltrami, gold beater Marino Menegazzo, oar makers Saverio Pastor and Piero Dri, master glass engraver Matteo Seguso, lampwork artist Lucio Bubacco, and mask maker Sergio Boldrin—created unique works inspired by the Gommino shoe. The Gommino, born in the late 1970s as a reinterpretation of driving shoes, features 133 rubber pebbles on its sole. Variants include the City Gommino with a structured sole and the Gommino Bubble with oversized colorful pebbles. Tod's also partners with the Italian Pavilion at the Biennale for Massimo Bartolini's installation 'Due qui / To Hear', curated by Luca Cerizza. A limited-edition collection for Venice—featuring the Gommino and T Timeless shopping bag in Tiziano red and ultramarine blue—launches April 19, 2024, at the new boutique on Calle XXII Marzo and online. The brand has previously restored the Colosseum in Rome and Palazzo Marino in Milan, and supports Teatro alla Scala.
