Venetian artist Ida Barbarigo Cadorin dies at 92
Ida Barbarigo Cadorin, a Venetian artist and the last heir of the Cadorin dynasty of sculptors, painters, and photographers, died on January 15, 2018, at her home on the Grand Canal in Venice at age 92. She lived there with her partner, the painter Zoran Music, who died in 2005. The Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia remembered her as a "daughter of art and extraordinarily talented artist" who moved through the 20th century with discreet presence and passionate intelligence. The foundation had organized several exhibitions of her work, notably at Palazzo Fortuny, where a major 2016 show curated by Jean Clair focused on the Cadorin family. Other exhibitions included "I terrestri" (2006) at Palazzo Pesaro degli Orfei and "Erme e Saturni" as part of "Inverno a Palazzo Fortuny 2015–2016." Since 2009, she was a constant presence in exhibitions organized with the Axel & May Vervoordt Foundation at Palazzo Fortuny. In mid-April 2018, the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia will honor her with a public event at the Museo Correr. Barbarigo was the daughter of Guido Cadorin and Livia Tivoli; her childhood home was frequented by Gabriele d'Annunzio, Amedeo Modigliani, Oscar Kokoschka, and Mariano Fortuny.
