Venetian 19th-Century Art Debuts in US at IIC New York

The Istituto Italiano di Cultura (IIC) in New York presents "Memories of Serenissima. 19th century artists in Venice," curated by Marco Bertoli, a Christie's consultant. The exhibition, running from February 2 to March 2, 2017, showcases Venetian painting from the 19th and early 20th centuries for the first time in the United States, with works by Guglielmo Ciardi, Federico Zandomeneghi, and Giovanni Boldini, all from private collections. This show concludes a trilogy on 19th-century Italian painting at the IIC, following successful exhibitions on the Macchiaioli (2014) and the Neapolitan school (2015). The exhibition coincides with the "Music and Arts from The Venetian Republic" festival at Carnegie Hall, organized with the Italian Embassy in Washington, the Italian Consulate General, and the IIC. The festival, running until February 21, 2017, includes concerts by Venetian composers, roundtables, theater, and art events across New York. IIC director Giorgio van Straten emphasized the institute's role in promoting Italian culture abroad, including young Italian artists through the Premio NY and Premio Gotham awards.
