Velasco Vitali's 'Sabìr' Installation at Arte Sella in Borgo Valsugana
On October 3, 2023, Arte Sella, the contemporary art park located in Borgo Valsugana, Trentino, introduced 'Sabìr', an installation by Velasco Vitali (born in Bellano, 1969). This event coincided with the National Day of Remembrance and Welcome, commemorating the tenth anniversary of the tragic Lampedusa shipwreck that claimed twenty lives. Vitali's creation features a semicircular canopy constructed from 6,000 wooden shingles and twenty planks salvaged from the migrant vessel, echoing designs of Mediterranean domes while transitioning in color from sea blue to dawn pink. Established in 1986 at Villa Strobele, Arte Sella has showcased over 300 artists along three routes, including works by renowned figures like Ettore Sottsass, Kengo Kuma, and Stefano Boeri. In January 2023, Borgo Valsugana was recognized as one of 'I borghi più belli d'Italia'.
