Vedovamazzei: The Genesis of a Duo's Name and Their Studio Visit in Farnesina Web Series

The eighth episode of the web series 'Spazi d’artista' features the artist duo Vedovamazzei, composed of Stella Scala and Simeone Crispino. In the interview, Scala explains the origin of their name, coined in 1991: 'Vedovamazzei' combines 'Vedova' (widow) and 'Mazzei' (a surname), playing with the idea of a woman whose marital status is known but origin unknown, and a man whose name is known but person no longer exists. The series is a collaboration between Artribune and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, aimed at promoting the Collezione Farnesina, a collection of modern and contemporary art housed in the Farnesina Palace in Rome. The web series consists of 10 films, one per month from December 2020 to September 2021, each focusing on a different artist from the collection. The films are shot in the artists' studios and explore their creative processes and relationship with their workspace. The project also includes Instagram Stories with micro-insights into the collection and a print special supplement in Artribune Magazine featuring contributions from three members of the collection's scientific committee: Gianfranco Maraniello, Anna Mattirolo, and Angela Tecce.
