Vasyl Cherepanyn appointed curator for 14th Berlin Biennale in 2027

Vasyl Cherepanyn will curate the 14th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, scheduled for summer 2027. His selection was unanimous by a committee including Akiko Miki, Emma Enderby, Julia Grosse, Marina Naprushkina, Marta Kuzma, Nicola Trezzi, and Pablo José Ramírez. Cherepanyn, a curator and researcher focusing on post-Soviet Eastern Europe, aims to address Berlin's socio-political and cultural landscape. He emphasized the Biennale's potential to foster public engagement beyond artistic or academic realms, drawing from his experience in Ukraine amid Russia's colonial war. Axel Wieder, director of the Berlin Biennale, noted Cherepanyn's distinctive geographic background and curatorial focus on collective artistic endeavors rooted in social contexts and urban environments.
