Vanessa Beecroft stages VB93 performance with 300 women at Cinecittà

On October 1, 2022, Vanessa Beecroft staged her 93rd performance, VB93, at Teatro 5 in Cinecittà, Rome, featuring 300 women from Rome. The site-specific tableau vivant, lasting three hours, was commissioned by Cinecittà president Chiara Sbarigia as part of a new cultural project to enrich the Archivio Luce with contemporary works, especially from a female perspective. The performance, which included live music and lighting changes suggesting a progression from late night to mid-afternoon, will be documented in a 90-minute film, VB93 Performance Documentary, produced by Mauro Calevi of Masifilm Srl in collaboration with Vanessa Beecroft Studio. Some images will be acquired by Archivio Luce and become part of the MIAC (Museo del Cinema e dell'Audiovisivo di Cinecittà). Sbarigia noted the performance coincides with Caravaggio's birth date, linking Beecroft's staging to the Baroque master's use of models and light.
