Vanessa Beecroft Photographs Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2023 Collection

Vanessa Beecroft, known for her 25-year exploration of the female body and power dynamics, has photographed Saint Laurent's Spring/Summer 2023 collection. The Italian artist (born 1969 in Genoa) produced 14 sensual, faded Polaroids influenced by classical studies and the political role of the female body. The images will be exhibited and sold at Saint Laurent Rive Droite stores in Paris and Los Angeles. This is not Beecroft's first fashion collaboration; she previously worked with Helmut Lang in the 1990s at Jeffrey Deitch's New York gallery, partnered with Prada in 1993 and 2000, shot for Valentino at the New York Academy of Art, collaborated with Kanye West and Yeezy, created nudes for Kim Kardashian's perfume, and worked with Moncler in Milan. She had already collaborated with Saint Laurent in 2018 during Art Basel Miami, photographing models in black under the Eiffel Tower. Now, artistic director Anthony Vaccarello (of Kering-owned Saint Laurent) invited Beecroft to bring her vision to the new line, focusing on evocative details like plunging necklines, sheer fabrics, sparkling sandals, and close-up portraits with large sunglasses. The photos blend Beecroft's aesthetic with the Maison's elegance, centering on beauty and power of the female body at the boundary between nudity and clothing.
