Van Gogh's Inner Circle Exhibition Explores Artist's Private Life

A new exhibition at Het Noordbrabants Museum in Den Bosch, Netherlands, delves into Vincent van Gogh's personal relationships. Titled "Van Gogh's Inner Circle. Friends, Family, Models," the show runs until January 12, 2020, and features 99 paintings, sketchbooks, works on paper, photographs, and letters. It examines the familial, romantic, and friendly bonds that influenced his life and art. Van Gogh was the eldest of six children, with siblings Theo, Cor, Anna, Lies, and Wil. His brother Theo was pivotal, encouraging him to paint, introducing him to artists, and supporting him financially for a decade. The exhibition also covers van Gogh's tumultuous love life: unrequited love for cousin Kee Vos, a relationship with Margot Begemann, cohabitation with former prostitute Sien Hoornik and her two children, and a liaison with Agostina Segatori, owner of Café Le Tambourin in Paris, where Vincent exhibited his works.
