Van Gogh Museum's 'Yellow' Exhibition Explores Color's Many Meanings
The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam presented 'Yellow. Beyond Van Gogh’s Colour', the first exhibition to deeply explore Vincent van Gogh's association with the color yellow. Curated by Edwin Becker, Head of Exhibitions, the show ran from February 13 to May 17, 2026. It centered on Van Gogh's 'Sunflowers' (1889) but expanded to include works by his contemporaries, objects like perfumes and party dresses, and immersive installations by Olafur Eliasson. The exhibition examined how yellow has shaped art, culture, and sensory experience, highlighting Van Gogh's use of new industrial pigments in the late 19th century to pioneer Post-Impressionist expression. A corresponding publication is available via the museum shop.
