The Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven has unveiled a new exhibition showcasing its collection, accompanied by a three-year initiative running from 2017 to 2020 called "de-modernizing the museum and the collection." This program encourages reflections on the function of museums and the notion of modernity. In partnership with L'Internationale, which consists of six institutions including Ljubljana's Moderna Galerija and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the museum’s collection, featuring 3,000 pieces, is curated into two distinct exhibits by Christiane Berndes, Charles Esche, Loes Janssen, and Steve ten Thije. Esche emphasized that this change marks the beginning of a broader reevaluation of the museum's community role.
