cultural-heritage · 2026-05-05

The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997, is now accessible on the Google Cultural Institute platform. Using advanced Google technologies, the project offers virtual visits across the 1,300-hectare archaeological park through four virtual tour paths and thousands of Street View images, including nighttime views. Users can also explore 11 digital exhibitions in Italian and English, featuring over 1,000 archival images covering topics like the Doric temples, the Temple of Zeus, and the Paleochristian Agrigento. With Google Cardboard and the Arts & Culture app, two virtual reality tours allow immersive exploration of key sites such as the temples of Zeus, Juno, and the Paleochristian Necropolis. Giuseppe Parello, director of the Valley of the Temples Park, emphasized that the collaboration aims to provide a universally accessible, scientifically controlled virtual experience of the park's archaeological and environmental heritage.
