Valextra and Ikea merge luxury and street art in new collaborations
Valextra, the renowned Italian luxury brand, has unveiled a unique corner at Harrods in London, crafted by architect David Adjaye. Meanwhile, in June, Swedish furniture powerhouse Ikea will debut its inaugural collective street art event, Ikea Loves Earth. Adjaye, who hails from Tanzania and is of Ghanaian descent, is celebrated for his work on notable projects such as the Denver Art Museum and the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. For Valextra, he designed a modern space featuring cement with rhythmic grooves that contrasts with the surrounding materials, integrating architecture, master planning, furniture, and product design. Ikea's initiative, running from June 2 to 9 across various Italian cities, will showcase street artists including EDF Crew, Giulio Vesprini, and others, creating sustainability-themed murals with special paint that minimizes nitrogen oxide emissions. On June 10 and 11, Ikea stores will host live events where artists will personalize furniture for donation to local social organizations.
