Valerio D'Angelo's iridescent installation at Hilton La Lama in Rome

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Valerio D'Angelo (b. 1993, Rome) presents 'Collateral Display', a site-specific installation at the Hilton La Lama in Rome's EUR district, as part of the LamArte project curated by Valentina Ciarallo. The work consists of eight panels placed alternately in the first-floor glass gallery, using dichroic film—a material developed by NASA for space missions—to create an iridescent light veil that shifts with visitor movement and natural light throughout the day. The installation dialogues with the building's geometry designed by Studio Fuksas, with interiors by Studio Lorenzo Bellini Atelier. Additional works are displayed in the Library, including mirrored surfaces set in antique frames, referencing the Baroque period—D'Angelo's specialty as a trained restorer. These mirrors feature burned, cracked, and heat-distorted surfaces that distort reflections, exploring perception and identity. The exhibition also includes 'Lens', an abstract convex piece evoking Parmigianino's 1524 self-portrait, a column from the 'Too Far for Light to Travel' series, and plaster and resin sculptures from the 'Default Orbit' series that explore time and the relationship between ancient and contemporary. The show runs at Hilton La Lama, Rome.
