Valerio Berruti's carousel installation opens Contemporary Art Month in Turin

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Valerio Berruti's monumental installation 'La giostra di Nina' has been unveiled at the Reggia di Venaria, inaugurating Turin's Contemporary Art Month. The 7-meter-diameter carousel, featuring birds instead of horses, was originally conceived as a sculpture and later became the basis for an animated short film produced by Sky Arte with a soundtrack by Ludovico Einaudi. The animation, based on a story by Filippo Bessone, tells the tale of a young carousel operator and a childlike giant. The work is on view until July 25 in the Galleria Grande of the Reggia di Venaria, where visitors can physically ride the carousel, completing the artwork through active participation. Guido Curto, Director of the Consorzio delle Residenze Reali Sabaude, described it as a poetic and graceful contemporary art piece that brings hope during difficult times.
