Valerio Berruti's bronze mermaid child installed at Milano Marittima

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

Valerio Berruti's six-meter bronze sculpture "Non basta il canto delle sirene" has been permanently installed at Milano Marittima, on Mosquito Beach 236, as the grand finale of the Mare d'Arte Festival. The work depicts a child-like mermaid emerging from the sea, illuminated at dusk by a lighting project curated by Hera Luce. Berruti describes his figures as metaphors for human equality, care for the world, and the fragility of existence, rather than literal children. The artist is also the subject of a solo exhibition "More than kids" at Palazzo Reale in Milan until November 2, 2025. The Mare d'Arte Festival, directed by Gianluca Orazi in collaboration with Sky Arte and local institutions, began with Oliviero Toscani Studio's "Razza Umana" photographic installation along the seafront. The festival aims to integrate contemporary art into daily life through exhibitions, performances, and meetings.
