Valerio Adami's First Austrian Solo Show at Secession

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Valerio Adami, a leading figure in Italian Pop Art, is having his first solo exhibition in Austria at the Secession building in Vienna. The show, titled at the Grafisches Kabinett, runs until August 28 and features works created before 1964, predating the American Pop Art boom. These early pieces retain expressionist influences but already hint at the comic-strip style that would define his mature work, akin to Roy Lichtenstein. The Secession building, designed by Joseph Maria Olbrich based on a sketch by Gustav Klimt, houses Klimt's Beethoven Frieze. Adami, born in Bologna in 1935, now lives mostly in Paris.
