Valérie Jouve's Jerusalem Projections at Université Rennes 2

Valérie Jouve's exhibition at Galerie Art & Essai, Université Rennes 2, from March 4 to April 9, 2010, curated by students from the master's program Métiers et arts de l'exposition, presents a unique reading of her work through thirteen slide projections in four locations. The selection of forty-one images, including recent photographs taken during her residency in Jerusalem, contrasts construction sites, façades, and peri-urban landscapes with views of divided Israeli-Palestinian spaces. Notably, the 'Personnages' series is absent. The projection system treats the wall as a blank page or musical score, enabling multiple readings and emphasizing temporality over the materiality of prints. This approach highlights political positions and connects urban issues across contexts. The exhibition recontextualizes Jouve's categories—Figures, Situations, Façades, Paysages, Passants—within contemporary political history, informed by her experience in Jerusalem.
