Valentino stages haute couture show at Venice Biennale with artist collaboration
During the Architecture Biennale, Valentino unveiled its haute couture collection, Valentino Des Ateliers, for Fall/Winter 2021-22 at the Gaggiandre in Venice's Arsenale. Creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli worked alongside a group of contemporary artists, including Guglielmo Castelli, Alessandro Teoldi, and others, chosen by Gianluigi Ricuperati. This initiative aimed to foster a dialogue between the ateliers of Valentino and the artists' studios, transforming flat paintings into three-dimensional garments. The venue, designed by Jacopo Sansovino in the 16th century, remained largely unaltered, contrasting with Saint Laurent's new construction on Isola della Certosa. Valentino also highlighted sustainability by introducing a white paper streaming kit made from eco-friendly materials, eliminating plastic. The event was held near a sculpture by Giuseppe Penone, curated by Chus Martinez for the Vuslat Foundation.
