Valentino's 'The Beginning' show at Trinità dei Monti in Rome
On July 8, 2022, Valentino presented its fall/winter 2022/2023 collection titled 'The Beginning' with a runway show at Trinità dei Monti and Piazza di Spagna in Rome. Creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli aimed to evoke an eternal beginning, returning to a city where time magically dissolves. The event revived the historic 'Donna sotto le stelle' fashion shows held between 1986 and 2003, which featured top designers and became a television phenomenon on RAI before moving to Mediaset. The show attracted a jet-set crowd including Anne Hathaway, Naomi Campbell (who DJ'd at the party), Laura Pausini, Drusilla Foer, Mara Venier, and Elodie. The production was supported by Rome's new city council, particularly Alessandro Onorato, assessor for Tourism, Sport, Fashion, and Major Events. Valentino also sponsored the restoration of the mosaics of Caracalla and the replacement of palm trees in Piazza di Spagna. The inclusive dinner and party at the Baths of Caracalla hosted over 500 people, including fashion students seated alongside VIPs and politicians. The finale featured models descending the Spanish Steps in colorful couture, with seamstresses, pattern makers, and cutters joining Piccioli on stage. A model wearing a headpiece reminiscent of Piero Gherardi's costumes for Federico Fellini's '8½' evoked the city's cinematic history.
