Valentino Nizzo Appointed Director of Fictional Bugliano Etruscan Museum

Valentino Nizzo, director of the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia in Rome, has also been appointed director of the Museo Civico Etrusco di Bugliano, a fictional museum in a non-existent town in the province of Pisa. The appointment was announced in August 2020, following a public call issued the previous year. Nizzo, an archaeologist, accepted the role to create an Etruscan museum network and support what he calls the second most important Etruscan museum after Villa Giulia. The museum's mission, as stated, is to research and exhibit material and immaterial testimonies for the public's enjoyment. Bugliano is a satirical social media phenomenon known for its Facebook page that parodies Italian politics and society. The museum claims to present controversial theories about Etruscan origins, including connections to Albania and the claim that the Etruscan language is the root of all languages. It features famous forgeries, such as a fake Sarcophagus of the Spouses once sold to the British Museum and an epigraph created by Annio da Viterbo. The museum has reportedly hosted Alberto Angela and plans to attract Chiara Ferragni and Fedez. Future projects include a retrospective for the fictional artist Teomondo Scrofalo and negotiations with Banksy for an exhibition. The museum also seeks volunteer professionals and uses outdated technology like carrier pigeons.
