Valentini and Gaggia's Collaborative Etching at Fermignano

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The exhibition 'Del filo e del segno' at Galleria Bramante in Fermignano pairs nonagenarian master Walter Valentini with younger artist Giovanni Gaggia. Their collaborative etching 'Unitis Signis' merges Valentini's cosmic trajectories with Gaggia's conceptual leanings. Both artists hail from Pergola and studied at the Scuola del Libro, Istituto di Belle Arti di Urbino. Curated by Chiara Canali, the show displays the etching, its engraved plates, and alternating works from each artist: Valentini's 'La Stanza del Tempo' (1983) and his illustrated book 'Dante Anarca e i suoi sei maestri' (1990) with poems by Giacomo Oreglia; Gaggia's pencil-and-blood drawings, embroidered linen works, and performance documentation. The exhibition aims to revive the Premio Internazionale per l'Incisione 'Fabio Bertoni', held at Galleria Bramante from 1995 to 2007, honoring Fabio Bertoni, a Fermignano native and engraving professor at the academies of Catania, L'Aquila, and Urbino. A video by Natascia Giulivi includes a tour and conversation between the artists.
