Valentina Triet and Margaret Salmon at Lateral Roma
Lateral Roma, an art space founded by Geraldine Tedder and Mathias Ringgenberg (PRICE) during their residency at the Istituto Svizzero, now includes curator Marta Federici. Located in the Appio Latino district, it functions as a platform for experimentation and "symbolic resistance." The current exhibition pairs Swiss artist Valentina Triet (b. 1991) with American artist Margaret Salmon (b. 1975, New York). Triet presents three videos from her series "Pattern as Teacher" (2021-22), featuring obsessive loops of static images—flower fields, polka dots, lace—that create a hypnotic, circular rhythm. Salmon's "Mm" (2017) acts as a footnote, showing track racing footage with the letter M repeated in various tones, exploring language and learning. The exhibition examines behavioral habits, contemporary rituals, and the construction of linguistic landscapes, questioning whether revolution is possible within the grid of language. A workshop on dance and voice by PRICE and Michele Rizzo runs December 7-9.
