Valentina Gemignani appointed new Chief of Staff at Italian Ministry of Culture

institutional · 2026-04-26

Alessandro Giuli, the Italian Minister of Culture, has appointed Valentina Gemignani as the new Capo di Gabinetto, succeeding Francesco Spano, who stepped down following a wave of controversy. Gemignani, a 1972 native of Chieti, previously served as vice Capo di Gabinetto at the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF). She earned her law degree from the University of Teramo in 1994 and completed an Executive Master at SDA Bocconi in 2019. Since 2020, she has held a senior management position at MEF. Spano's resignation was prompted by "unpleasant personal attacks" and an investigation into a conflict of interest related to his partner. Giuli seeks to bring stability to the ministry amid ongoing controversies, including political interference regarding the forthcoming Futurism exhibition in Rome.
