Valentin Carron and Mai-Thu Perret Face Off at Centre d'Art Contemporain Genève
The 'Solid Objects' exhibition, held at the Centre d'Art Contemporain Genève from May 20 to August 14, 2005, showcased three-dimensional pieces by Swiss artists Mai-Thu Perret (born 1976) and Valentin Carron (born 1977). Visitors were greeted by Carron's Roman bronze torso titled Lasciate mi vivere la mia vita (2005), while seventeen additional works explored the interplay between classicism and contemporary art. Carron's pieces, such as the imperial eagle (Sans titre [aigle], 2003), reflect local mountain craftsmanship with ambiguous fascist undertones. Perret's work, Perpetual Time Clock (2004), depicts a utopian female society in New Mexico. Their collaborative installation featured Perret's mannequins (A Uniform Sampler, 2004) and Carron's standards (Oriflammes, 2003). The exhibition was organized by Katya García-Antón and Fabrice Stroun, with a double monograph published by JRP-Ringier, Zurich.
