Vacheron Constantin and Louvre Launch Second Watch Collection Inspired by Ancient Civilizations
Vacheron Constantin, recognized as the oldest watchmaker globally, has unveiled its second collection in collaboration with the Musée du Louvre, titled 'Métiers d'Art – Hommage aux Grandes Civilisations.' This collection features four watches, each drawing inspiration from artifacts of Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Greek, and Roman heritage, employing nine decorative techniques, including the brand's inaugural use of glyptics on natural stone. The year-long project was overseen by Sandrine Donguy alongside Louvre specialists. Each watch dial showcases a sculpted figure: the Buste d'Akhenaton, Lamassu of Sargon II, personified Tiber, and Athena of Velletri, with stones that have geological ties to the originals. Limited to fifteen pieces per civilization, each watch is accompanied by a Louvre certificate and presented in a marquetry wood case. The collaboration commenced in 2019, with the initial series released in 2022.
