V&A's FOOD: Bigger than the Plate Explores Future of Eating

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The Victoria & Albert Museum in London presents FOOD: Bigger than the Plate, a show running from May 18 to October 20, 2019, that examines how food distribution and nutrition models may be transformed. Curated by Catherine Flood and May Rosenthal Sloan, with Italian consultant Fabio Parasecoli, the exhibition features over 70 projects by artists and designers working with chefs, farmers, scientists, and local communities. Divided into four sections—compost, farming, trading, and eating—the show includes visionary works such as Totomoxtle, an inlaid material made from discarded corn husks by designer Fernando Laposse, and the Urban Mushroom Farm, which cultivates mushrooms in coffee grounds (also served at the museum's Benugo Café). The walls are adorned with wallpaper by the artist collective Fallen Fruit, previously seen at Manifesta Palermo 2018. The exhibition is sponsored by BaxterStorey.
