V&A Dundee Opens in Scotland with £80M Design Museum
The Victoria and Albert Museum opens a new branch in Dundee, Scotland, on September 15, 2018. The V&A Museum of Design Dundee, designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, is an £80 million project aimed at revitalizing the city. The building features 2,500 stone panels and 1,650 square meters of exhibition space. It will house the Scottish Design Galleries, showcasing Scotland's design history, and a restored Oak Room by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The opening exhibition, 'Ocean Liners: Speed & Style,' runs from September 15, 2018, to February 24, 2019, featuring works from the mid-19th to 20th centuries. Artist Ciara Phillips will present a new work for the opening. Dundee was named a UNESCO City of Design in 2014 and a Worldwide Hot Destination by the Wall Street Journal in 2018.
