UUfie transforms 1970s chalet into angular Belfountain House on Niagara Escarpment

architecture-design · 2026-05-17

UUfie, an architectural firm, has completed the renovation and expansion of the Belfountain House, a chalet from the 1970s situated on the Niagara Escarpment in Belfountain, Ontario. They’ve kept the northern part of the original structure intact while extending the southern side using methods like repurposing materials and modifying sections. This home, designed for a philosopher, an artist, their kids, and a dog, is built into a steep slope, seamlessly blending with its surroundings. Guests pass by a pool and a unique artist's studio before stepping into a cozy, timber-clad mudroom that leads to a large living area featuring exposed rafters. Inside, diagonal red steel beams and a large suspended net serve multiple purposes, while two staircases offer different experiences. UUfie describes the home as "a dwelling shaped by movement and daily life."
