UT Arlington Studio Proposes City South Plan for Dallas City Hall and Downtown
At the UTA College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs, a design studio worked on an exciting project called City South, which aims to improve Dallas City Hall and its downtown neighborhood. This project was created in response to a public call from the City of Dallas, which received over 400 submissions. Under the guidance of adjunct professors Carlos Alba, Eduardo Castaneda, and Jason Wheeler, 15 senior architecture students collaborated on this endeavor. City South plans to maintain the iconic City Hall designed by I. M. Pei while proposing a 360,000-square-foot expansion for community use. Key elements include a new arena for the Dallas Mavericks, a park above Interstate 30, and a focus on a 15-minute-city model to tackle historical development issues with over 10 million square feet of new space.
