Used DSLR Market Thrives While New Sales Plummet

Despite a sharp decline in new DSLR shipments—from nearly one million units in 2024 to under 700,000 in 2025—the used DSLR market is booming, particularly for Nikon models. At Minna Camera, a major Japanese used camera marketplace, Nikon cameras accounted for 65.4% of all DSLR transactions over the past six months, with popular models including the D750, D850, and D500. Canon held a 27.1% share, followed by Pentax at 6.3%. The Nikon D750 was the best-selling camera overall at Minna Camera, beating mirrorless rivals. Prices for used Nikon DSLRs have remained steady despite declining interest in new DSLRs. This trend has been ongoing, with older models like the Nikon Df still commanding high prices. The future of the used DSLR market remains uncertain, as the drop in new sales may eventually affect used demand, especially as mirrorless camera prices continue to fall.
