US reclassifies marijuana from Schedule I to III

On Thursday, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche revealed that the US Department of Justice is reclassifying marijuana, which has been approved by the FDA and licensed by states, from Schedule I to Schedule III, categorizing it as a less harmful substance. This adjustment facilitates research into its safety and effectiveness. However, it does not legalize marijuana across the country. Additionally, the department is commencing an accelerated hearing process to consider a wider rescheduling. This move comes in response to a December executive order from President Donald Trump that called for the relaxation of marijuana regulations.
