US Justice Department Investigates E. Jean Carroll for Perjury

The US Justice Department has initiated a criminal inquiry into E. Jean Carroll, the author who accused Donald Trump of rape during the mid-1990s. This investigation, overseen by the US Attorney's Office in Chicago, is examining whether Carroll committed perjury in her testimonies related to two civil cases she won against Trump: one concerning alleged sexual misconduct in a New York department store and another regarding defamation in 2019. CNN was the first to report on this investigation. A source familiar with the situation confirmed its existence but indicated that it might not result in any charges. Neither Carroll's attorney, Robbie Kaplan, nor the Justice Department provided comments. Since last year, Trump's Justice Department has been investigating several of his critics.
