US Artists Protest Trump with Billboard and Mural
Two months before Presidential Day, artist and activist Karen Fiorito created a large billboard in Phoenix, Arizona depicting Donald Trump with a Russian flag pin, dollar signs resembling swastikas, and atomic mushrooms. Commissioned by La Melgosa gallery and installed at Grand Avenue and Taylor Street, the work sparked death threats against Fiorito and her husband from Trump supporters. In New York, artist Manny Vega collaborated with over 200 students from East Harlem Community Education Center to paint a 20-meter mural celebrating diversity, featuring flags of Mexico, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and countries on Trump's travel ban list. The mural, created in the school gym, is displayed on Second Avenue.
