Urs Fischer to Install 13-Meter Sculpture in Florence's Piazza della Signoria

Swiss artist Urs Fischer (Zurich, 1973) will create a 13-meter outdoor sculpture for Florence's Piazza della Signoria, alongside two 2-meter wax self-portraits of curator Francesco Bonami and BIAF secretary general Fabrizio Moretti that will melt over the exhibition period inside the Arengario of Palazzo Vecchio. The works debut during the 30th edition of the Biennale Internazionale dell'Antiquariato di Firenze (BIAF), running September 23 to October 1, 2017, at Palazzo Corsini. Fischer was selected by Moretti and Sergio Risaliti, with Bonami curating the contemporary art intervention. The fair features about 80 galleries and 3,000 vetted works, now including pieces dated up to 1989, blurring boundaries between antique and contemporary art. New interior designer Matteo Corvino replaces previous designer Pizzi. Supporting institutions include Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze, which will display its collection, and Palazzo Strozzi, which mounts a Cinquecento exhibition.
