Urbino hosts first school inspired by Emilio Isgrò's erasure art
In 1964, Emilio Isgrò, an artist, produced his inaugural erasure while engaged with the cultural sections of Il Gazzettino in Venice. He viewed this act not as an act of destruction but rather as a means of rejecting the unimportant to embrace what truly matters. Fast forward sixty years, the SCIE (Scuola della Cancellatura di Emilio Isgrò) is set to debut as a summer school in Urbino, featuring a week-long interdisciplinary course on erasure from various angles. This initiative, organized by the University of Urbino Carlo Bo, ISIA U, and the Academy of Fine Arts of Urbino, is the first advanced training program inspired by an artistic act. The course, which runs from June 24 to 29, 2024, is open to students, graduates, and artists, accommodating 30 participants. Applications are accepted until June 9, and the curriculum will delve into topics like negation, silence, cancel culture, and censorship. The course fee is around 500 euros, with six scholarships available from FIAM Italia. Participants will engage in developing personal projects utilizing erasure-related techniques and resources. Notable tutors include Luigi Balestra, Marco Bazzini, and others.
