Urban Decay Launches Basquiat-Inspired Makeup Collection
Cosmetics brand Urban Decay has launched a 12-piece capsule collection dedicated to Jean-Michel Basquiat, announced via Instagram. The line includes two eyeshadow palettes, a four-shade blush, three lipstick shades, extreme eyeliners resembling drawing pastels, and pouches. Colors range from beige/brown to violet/plum, with accents of bright blue, metallic gray, cobalt blue, pink, fluorescent yellow, and acid green. Shade names reference the artist's world, 1980s New York, and contemporary art: Post Punk pencil, Abstract lipstick, NoHo blush, Graffiti, Untitled, and Not For Sale eyeshadows. Packaging reproduces Basquiat's drawings, canvas fragments, and his crown logo. Urban Decay stated, 'Like Urban Decay, Basquiat was an outsider who challenged the status quo and used color in nontraditional ways.' The campaign features no Black models, sparking criticism. The collection will be available from April 20.
