UpTown Green Week 2024: art and sustainability in Milan
UpTown, Milan's first GBC Quartieri-certified sustainable smart district, launches the UpTown Green Week from September 26 to 29, 2024, with a series of events, exhibitions, concerts, tours, creative workshops, talks, and roundtables focused on art and sustainability. The program begins early on September 19 with 'Arte in cantiere' (until October 13), transforming an active construction site into an open-air gallery. Artists Mr. Savethewall and Tomoko Nagao will create permanent artworks and performances at the Feel UpTown construction site, donating pieces to future residents of the building, set for completion in 2025. From September 24, 2024, to January 7, 2025, 'Look Up: Cracking Art' presents an open-air exhibition by the international Cracking Art movement, which has realized over 400 installations worldwide from Hong Kong to Saint Petersburg and from Örebro to Seoul. The park (over 30 hectares) and the Cascina courtyard will be populated with colorful snails of various sizes, inviting visitors into a surreal atmosphere. During the Green Week, works by Italian-American artist Jessica Carroll (Rome, 1961) will be displayed—sculptures dedicated to bees, created with sustainability and circular economy principles. On September 26 at 6 PM, the online roundtable 'Make Art Save the Planet' will feature artists Richard Orlinski (Paris, 1966), Olivier Grossetête (1973), Jacopo Ceccarelli (aka 2501, Milan, 1981), and Jessica Carroll.
