Uovo alla Pop: Street Art Collective Opens New Gallery in Livorno's Garibaldi District

The Uovo alla Pop collective, formed by four women with backgrounds in design, art, architecture, and tourism, opened a gallery in Livorno's Garibaldi district in June 2017. The group—Giulia Bernini (Oblo Creature), Libera Capezzone (Libertà), Viola Barbara (Dello Squidy), and Valeria Aretusi—focuses on pop and urban art. Their gallery quickly became a community hub, hosting figures like Clet Abraham and Francesco Bonami. They launched 'Parete aperta,' a project painting shutters of vacant commercial spaces to create an open-air neighborhood gallery. The collective is moving from their temporary Piazza Garibaldi space to a new location on Scali delle Cantine, opening April 22. Preceding the opening are a crowdfunding campaign on Eppela until May 10 and a call for artists closing April 19, inviting submissions on the theme 'Storia di piazza' for a mural in Garibaldi. The winner receives €600 and materials, painting during a street art festival. Two international street artists have been invited to paint abandoned walls in September, pending crowdfunding success. The collective also plans an annual artist residency and a calendar of exhibitions.
